BOB-CAT Mowers Decks

Often the only interest that customers show in deck technology is width and how heavily they are fabricated. This is really just the tip of the ice berg, as the three fundamentals for any zero turn mower are deck, transmission and engine. All three features form the basis of any zero turn mower.

Decks do ALL the Heavy Lifting!

This is an understatement! BOBCAT place their deck design as their highest priority. Getting the deck right can dictate just how you build out the rest of the machine!

After 40 years in the industry BOB-CAT have hit the jackpot - it is quite simple once you see the formula at work!

The BOB-CAT idea is mainly about air flow, as each spindle from the left hand side of the deck passes the cut material to the neighbouring spindle until the grass exits the high volume grass chute on the far right of the mower.

In order to move vast quantities of cut material you need air flow - plain and simple!

So by raising the front deck lip and placing the cutter blades at the lowest point, just within the baffles, three things take place instantaneously!

1. Firstly the grass is not laid over near as far before getting hit by the blade tips travelling at over 18,000 ft per minute
2. The accompanying airflow is increased dramatically as the front deck opening is large enough to feed air into the speeding blades
3. Because the blades are just inside the baffle itself, at the lowest point, there is a huge volume of space above the spinning blades that allows the grass to be virtually pushed across the deck top at a very high velocity, which allows each blade to pass the load to the neighbouring spindle very easily; more air flow, less power loss, better grass clipping movement, higher volume of cut!

If your deck design is wrong - even if you add excessive horsepower engines the result can never be the same!

So BOBCAT can push a 48 inch side discharge deck with an 18 HP Kawasaki engine, running a very high specification ZT2800 transaxle transmission - very efficiently; less fuel, less emissions with no power loss. BOBCAT can do this as their deck is extremely efficient and well designed.

So when shopping for a zero turn mower,  don't fall into the trap that bigger horsepower means a better machine; it is definitely NOT the case. You need to look at all 3 design fundamentals in order to make an informed decision!
